Matrix Fireworks Inc., of Wahpeton, North Dakota, is recalling about 56,200 of the Jumbo Fireworks “Surprise Fountain” because it is overloaded with pyrotechnics that produce a loud noise, in violation of federal law regulating fireworks.

According to the recall notice posted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC):

Overloaded fireworks can result in a greater than expected explosion, posing burn and explosion hazards to consumers. The product is labeled as a fountain but functions similar to an M-80 or other large firecracker, which are illegal.”

The recalled Jumbo Fireworks “Surprise Fountain” was sold individually with product code #JFG4279 on the front panel above the cautionary text.

The fireworks are small red cylinder that measure 3″ tall by about 1″ wide. The words “Jumbo Fireworks,” “Surprise Fountain,” “Warning” and pictures of fountains with happy faces are printed on the front.

Consumers should not use the recalled fireworks and return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.

The recalled fireworks were sold at Matrix Fireworks of Wahpeton, N.D. between May 2017 and August 2017 for about $15.
